Mike Dean, MD, MBA

Dr. Dean is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah
School of Medicine, where he has worked since 1987. He attended Northwestern
University Medical School and performed his pediatric residency and chief
residency at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
Prior to arrival in Utah, Dr. Dean was an Assistant Professor
at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he finished his
critical care fellowship training in 1981. He received an M.B.A. from The
Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1999.
In Utah, Dr. Dean has served as Chief of the Division of
Critical Care, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Medical Director of the
Primary Children’s Medical Center, and the Principal Investigator for numerous
EMSC related grants. He has published over 100 publications, and is an editor of
the leading textbook in pediatric critical care. He currently is Professor
and Vice Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, principal investigator of the
National EMSC Data Analysis Resource Center and the Intermountain Injury Control
Research Center. He has been the medical director of quality assurance
activities at Primary Children’s Medical Center since 1992. He lives with his
wife, children, computers, and cats in Salt Lake City, Utah.
